The Well-Read Books of Wigtown shop has gone digital – browse the online selection of books.
The shop stocks a wide range of genres, and all books are in good clean condition. While there is no specialism as such, there is an extensive range of 19th, 20th, and 21st century fiction from the classics to novels published within the last couple of years.
There are in excess of 2,000 titles covering crime, horror, fantasy, sci-fi, and true crime. These are shelved in a dedicated room. The general stock includes: Scottish history and local history, general history, archaeology, biography, politics, philosophy, travel, natural history, outdoor pursuits, transport, cookery, gardening, handicrafts, music, cinema, poetry, art, architecture and fashion.
There is also a good range of inexpensive books for junior readers and young adults – from Louisa May Alcott to Jacqueline Wilson.
I also stock many titles covering the Classical World – history, philosophy, Greek and Latin texts, texts in translation, grammar guides and dictionaries.
The shop offers a small but thoughtfully curated selection of new paperbacks with an emphasis on newly published fiction, nature writing and titles of local interest, as well as a small range of literary-themed gifts and cards.
